I love Garth Nix books, and Shade's Children was really good. The voice actor/narrator reading the book, though, was not my favorite. He was a bit flat thoughout most of the book. Even during dramatic or fast-paces scenes, he didn't really pick up his pace or put any emotion into his voice, which set the wrong tone for certain scenes. Shade's Children is a post-apocalyptic vision of a world where all children must die on their 14th birthday. It's a great read, the sort of book that stimulates you as much as it stimulates the child you are reading it to. It's a wonderful book: smart, funny, scary. The ending is pitch perfect.
